Why I can’t take people seriously (when they don’t even update thier WordPress install)
April 16, 2008
I know, its fairly harsh, but I’m in a bad mood this evening.
There’s a rash of internet marketers making me itchy at the moment - they’re running out of date WordPress installs, and worst of all, they’re not even doing the ‘basics’ of making sure thier blog has a good reach ability.
I’ve written about ‘reachability’ before, but the basics of it is that you’ve got tools that you can use to make sure your blog is plastering itself wherever you’ve got a spare piece of wall. Why not use them?
Here’s the thing though. I won’t buy from a marketer that can’t - at least - update his WordPress based blog because if his security is THAT lax, do I REALLY want to order from them?
Do I even trust them with my email?
NOOOOO.
Now - before I get too high and mighty, yes, I know, I haven’t updated ALL of my blogs. Its taking me a while, but I’ve updated 9/10ths of them (I’m involved with over 100 of them, and I’m doing my ‘personal’ projects last). I stand by what I said though.
At TheBloggingCoach, we’re offering to upgrade people’s installs, for free. All we would like in return is a thank you and a place in your Blogroll. And to be honest, if people are offering to do it for free, you’ve got no reason not to let them. Remember to change your main password until they’ve done the update, and remember to research them, if you can, but those of us involved with the wordpress community are usually really nice, honest

Got something to say?

Reachability is extremely important and seems to be a tremendous problem
for most marketers. Thanks to your article many of them will find there way.
