The holy grail of the Internet

Businesses online want, ultimately, one thing.
Money.

Whether you’re online to up your exposure or directly sell a product, you will always find, at the root of it, the want to exchange a product or service for its value.
So where does blogging and podcasting fit into this?

A lot of my clients, when consulted have said that they stopped blogging/podcasting because ‘the money just wasn’t there’. When asked if their business showed an appreciable rise, 9/10ths of them said yes.
And that it had dropped over time since they’d stopped.

Blogging and podcasting aren’t the holy grail of the internet. They aren’t a magic bullet - but they are a step towards making sure your name is imprinting on people again and again, and that your brand is there with them.

There are three keys to both blogging and podcasting:

1) consistence - if you’re consistently giving the same message, people will eventually respond. It might take a longer time than you’d like, but people do respond and acknowledge things better when its placed in front of them on a regular basis.
2) Relevance - if your blog or podcast is relevant, you’ll chalk up extra points each and every time its visited and revisited by people - we live in a society of ‘no time’ so offering something that’s both timely and convenient is a bonus to most of the population.
3) Honesty - stake your reputation on a lie and you’ll find it in tatters - overexagerate on your promises, and sooner or later, people will notice. But be honest in your dealings, when presenting your public face and people will trust you more. So instead of playing up your brilliance, tell people, honestly and with humility about your product or service. Most people respond far better to sincerity than sales.
