Headlines and slugs - do you DO wordpress?

This is halfway between a techie post and a pure (blog) copywriting post so bear with me.

And if ANY of this is confusing gimmie a shout - I can’t answer or explain stuff unless I know that you’re having problems.

First up - you might want to read the definitional post that I wrote.

Ok. I’ll wait right here.

Blogging is turning into the next big ground for waging war on the search engine rankings. To make the MOST of your blog, you should - really - make sure that your headline contains keywords that relate directly to your post - which, in turn, gives you a link that relates to the content, stuffed with those keywords.

This is most commonly achieved by the slug being created from your headline.
BUT.

You can edit the slug to better reflect your keywords. As long as you’re careful not to duplicate slugs, its sometimes best to edit your slug to show the keywords, themes, or concepts in your post.
I’ve done so with this ’slug’ which has altered the URL that you use to access the post. Try it on your own blog (on new posts or you’ll find that your links might break) if you can edit the slug (its usually Wordpress that allows this)

  1. I know what slugs are, but I had *no idea* you could edit them. I have both a blogger and a wordpress blog. How do you access the slug so as to edit it?

(Does your comment box accept html? Could I put links into my comment — or would your filter eliminate me as spam if I tried?)

Oh, and this is a GORGEOUS site. Sleek, full of information, but without being cluttered or visually confusing.
