Do you niche?

Recently, over at Mamaneedsabookcontract, we talked about niches (we choose a theme each week, and blog on it - its amazing how simple a topic becomes diverse and complex answers).
This week our theme was ‘niches’ - which is important to bloggers.
All of the answers that were posted resonated with me, but Heather’s post was the best for bloggers.  So, go read it, and then come back.

You read it?
Good.
Its important to understand how to drill down into your niche - and Heather’s post is about the best summary I’ve ever seen on drilling down into a niche.  Choose the primary, and move down until you reach something that you can comfortably write about.  Look at it like a field, with a tree, that’s been hollowed out, with something growing in it - like this:
Mental health (field) - Depression and bi-polar disorder(tree) - living positively (the thing growing in the hollow).
Another of mine is Writing (field) - fiction - slipstream.
Another - Writing - copywriting - content for small businesses.
And another - Blogging - Wordpress - making WordPress work for YOU.

I actually went through all of my niches - and reviewed the blogs attached to them - and realised, when I did, that I hadn’t actually ‘nichified’ my blogs correctly.  So I’m going back to fix that in the next few weeks.

Niching your site - or blog - correctly might make the difference between mingling with C-listers and working with A-listers.
