All it takes is one article…

Though, if it only takes one article, and you can adapt this project into your own pattern, why stop at one?

What you’ll need:

An article writing system - whether you use (and REWRITE PLR), or write your own article from scratch.
A list of places that accept your articles, press releases, blog posts, and ten (no more, no less) absolute favorite bookmarking sites (I recommend Digg, Deli.cio.us, StumbledUpon and seven others ;)).  As an optional extra, research some ezines in your niche, and get contact information for THEM, and grab a copy of Audiacity - for podcasting.  If you choose to do this last step, you’ll need to build a little bit more than an article ;).

Part 1 - the article(s).

It should be reasonably simple to write articles in your niche of choice, but be aware that you need to pay attention to what you’re writing.  DO NOT be too self serving - offer real value, but make sure you’re not selling ‘the farm’.  In basic terms, there are several ways you can write an article:

  1. The list article: - make a bulleted list, and head it with a compelling headline.  Something like - 10 reasons writers should diversify (occassionally) or The five mistakes every blogger makes.
  2. Reviews - write a review (not an advertorial, which is a paid review commissioned by a company or third party in most cases) and give your opinon.  Be aware that your opinion forms part of your reputation, and if you mess up in your recommendations, it MAY dog you for the rest of your online ‘life’.
  3. Problem - solution - result - if you can write an outline of how to solve a problem, with step by step, clear solutions, you’ll find that people will really REALLY like your work.  My most popular post on my WRITING blog is ‘How do I refresh my DNS‘.  Oddly, I wrote this as a throwaway post, so it also goes to show that you can’t always predict what the most popular posts are going to be.  These are also considered as ‘how to’ articles.
    You can also combine ‘how to’ articles into list or review articles for more impact.
  4. Summary-roundup - you can summarise news, opinion, or articles you’ve read that you can re-relate with your own editorial notes.  Much like PLR, you need to rewrite the content sufficently - simply cobbling together several articles won’t work.
  5. Finally, you can produce a pure information article.  Pure information articles are ones that don’t fall into the categories above, and contain a significant informational value to your readers.

Of all the article types, 1, 2, 3 and 5 do the best on article sites, in ezines and on blogs.  Four is absolutely best for certain types of ezines, newsletters, and blogs.
